What is Freeview?

Freeview is a digital TV service that can be used via an aerial. Freeview works with TVs, boxes and video recorders that have the correct compatibility – which is most. It offers a wealth of TV and radio channels, including some of the UK’s favourites. Freeview is extremely popular and subscription-free. This makes it an excellent option for those who wish to have access to TV entertainment without being tied down to a subscription.

Getting Freeview

The first thing you must do is ensure that your aerial and your TV are digitally compatible. You will also need a Freeview box. If your TV was made after 2010, it would have built-in Freeview. This means that if your TV is less than 11 years old, all you need to do is plug it into the mains and your Freeview is ready.

Installing a Freeview Box

If you are using a Freeview box, this must be set up before watching the channels. Doing this is easy and fast. As long as you have a digital-compatible aerial, a working Freeview box with a power lead, SCART or HDMI lead and remote control, you are good to go.

The aerial must be plugged into the box along with the SCART or HDMI lead. The lead will also connect to the TV. Turn the TV on, followed by the Freeview box, which should be automatically detected. If this is not the case, you can change the channel to AV 1 or HDMI 1. You will then be able to tune your Freeview box and store your channels. You can use the Freeview remote control to select the channels.

Tuning The Freeview Channels

To manually tune your Freeview box, select the menu on your remote control or box. If a password is requested, use 1234 or 0000. Select factory reset, first-time installation, or full re-tune. If you are asked if it is okay to delete current channels, select ‘yes’. This will make room for the set-up of your Freeview channels.

Once your Freeview box is successfully tuned, you will have a fantastic range of entertainment available at your fingertips.

If you have trouble with your aerial, consult an aerial specialist, such as Aerials Direct.
